YOUSEFUL / FILEMAKER

Youseful Software sample scripts

18 standalone FileMaker scripts covering all 16 current plug-ins. Every script includes its name, prerequisites, editable inputs, and expected result. The SQL sample also includes three product records.

Use a sample

  1. Enable the corresponding Ysfl*.fmx64 plug-in in FileMaker Pro on Windows x64.
  2. Open a practice database and follow the Setup note at the top of the file.
  3. In Script Workspace, create the script using the Script name from the file.
  4. Add the listed steps with FileMaker's step editor. Copy each calculation into its calculation editor. For Set Variable, enter the variable name and Value separately; for Show Custom Dialog, enter the title and message separately.
  5. Run the script and compare with the Expected note.

These .fmscript.txt files are UTF-8 text listings, not .fmp12 files or clipboard XML. FileMaker cannot import them as scripts or accept the whole listing as a script paste. Lines starting with # are notes that can become Comment steps. Keep inside quoted calculations: it represents a FileMaker paragraph. Keep escaped quotes such as \" in the JSON literals as written. Windows paths inside calculation strings need doubled backslashes, for example "C:\\Tools\\python.exe".

The scripts run in FileMaker Pro; the .txt files are not PowerShell scripts. UI examples need an interactive desktop. Python and PHP need their respective Windows runtimes. JavaScript uses the embedded engine. Network samples need your own test endpoint or account; example hostnames and credentials are placeholders.

Choose a script

Start with Clean names, Parse a message, or JavaScript totals if you want an example that needs no tables, service accounts, or extra runtime.

Plug-in Script Setup / result
YsflFile Text export Writes, reads, and removes one temporary text file.
YsflQuery Query products Create Products and import the CSV; returns Hammer and Saw as JSON.
YsflText Clean names Embedded list becomes Alice, then bob.
YsflCrypt Encrypt a note Encrypts and decrypts sample text; reports Matched.
YsflDialog Ask for a name Enter Alex; reports Hello, Alex and handles cancellation.
YsflPrint Printer settings Requires a default printer; changes and restores orientation without printing.
YsflUI Action menu Displays a menu and branches on the selected action.
YsflSched Reminder Create first; displays the message passed by the scheduler.
YsflSched Schedule reminder Calls Reminder after at least five seconds and an idle opportunity.
YsflSched Cancel reminder Cancels the pending sample job; no dialog.
YsflBarcode Make a QR code Requires an editable Demo::QR container field; stores a QR PNG.
YsflHttp Fetch JSON Supply a JSON URL; handles transport, HTTP, and JSON errors.
YsflMail Parse a message Decodes a local MIME message; no mail account needed.
YsflFtp Browse FTPS Supply an explicit FTPS test account; lists names and disconnects.
YsflCurl Measure a transfer Supply a URL; displays status, protocol, and elapsed time.
YsflJS JavaScript totals Embedded engine returns line totals 30 and 7.
YsflPython Python totals Requires Windows CPython; returns count 2 and total 37.
YsflPHP PHP totals Requires Windows PHP 8+; returns count 2 and total 37.

Product query data

The Products table occurrence needs Name (Text), Category (Text), and Price (Number). Map the CSV header names to these fields and exclude the header from imported records. Import once into an empty practice table, then commit the three records. There should be two Tools records and one Office record.

Scheduler setup

Create Youseful - Reminder exactly as named before creating Youseful - Schedule reminder. Run Schedule reminder and let it finish. Keep the database open and leave the debugger unpaused so FileMaker can reach an idle opportunity. The Cancel reminder script is optional; an unknown-job result is normal if the job has already run. All three scripts belong in the same practice file.

Validation

These samples reproduce the companion tutorials. Their plug-in function names and argument counts are checked against the current source registrations. The companion documentation's native harness verified deterministic function outputs; it does not execute complete FileMaker scripts. GUI steps, printer behavior, real FileMaker SQL context, scheduler callbacks, and live network integrations still need an end-to-end run in FileMaker Pro.

The ZIP contains this README, all 18 step listings, the CSV, and manifest.json. It has no dependency on the repository to read the setup notes. The manifest provides script names and expected results for automated inventory tools.
